Desde las décadas finales del siglo XIX la ciudad de Medellín se erigió como la manifestación más excelsa de una cultura paisa que conciliaba las fuerzas de las tradiciones con los desafíos de la modernidad. El villorrio fundado en el siglo XVII permaneció casi por dos siglos eclipsado por la soberbia Santa Fe de Antioquia, de raigambre más antigua y especialmente beneficiada por las economías coloniales soportadas en la minería.How to Cite
